ADF: COOPPAVI - Muslim women Fisheries in Rwanda
Our 35th Anniversary Awardees, COOPPAVI, have broken down barriers to women around Lake Kivu. These women night fish for Isambaza (local small fish), process and sale the fish, and now manage small boats maintained by 9 full-time employees and 25 part-time fishing teams.
Empowering and Powering Women
Joyce Gema is founder and CEO of Boma Safi and a 2014 USADF Power Africa Off-Grid Challenge Winner. Boma Safi, a woman-owned, woman-run company in Kenya, is an energy distribution business that both targets and mobilizes rural women to distribute and sell its array of solar-powered products and cook-stoves.

Gahaya Links has empowered cross-generations of women and girls, widows and orphans, and Hutu and Tutsi alike to build bridges through art. Gahaya Links produces high quality crafts for export with more than 5,000 artisans from over 50 cooperatives and associations located in all the provinces of Rwanda.
